The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are Samsung’s new technology showcase outside of foldable screen smartphones. Here is everything you need to know about this generation, which is not revolutionary but comes to perfect a formula that has proven itself.
The release of Samsung’s new Galaxy S line of smartphones is one of the major events in the Android mobile market and often sets the tone for the rest of the year. Between their new design and the technical improvements they embed, the Galaxy S22 is no exception to the rule.
WHAT ARE THE PRICES OF THE GALAXY S22?
As in previous years, Samsung presented three different models: the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. Here is the official price list for all smartphones in the series:
- Galaxy S22 (8GB RAM/128GB storage): €859
- Galaxy S22 (8GB RAM/256GB storage): €909
- Galaxy S22+ (8GB RAM/128GB storage): €1,059
- Galaxy S22+ (8GB RAM/256GB storage): €1,109
- Galaxy S22 Ultra (8GB RAM/256GB storage): €1,259
- Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/256GB storage): €1,359
- Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/512GB storage): €1,459
- Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/1TB storage): €1,659
The screen of the Galaxy S22 and + remain this year on LTPS technology. It is able to vary its frequency from 48 to 120 Hz depending on the content displayed. The Galaxy S22 offers a diagonal of 6.1 inches (compared to 6.2 inches on the S21) and the Galaxy S22+ a diagonal of 6.6 inches (compared to 6.7 inches on the S21+). The S22 Ultra is entitled to an even more energy-efficient 6.8-inch LTPO 2.0 panel since it varies the refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz.
It is therefore clear that the Galaxy S22 does not really revolutionize the design of the range. Its photo block is very similar to that of its predecessor, although its main sensor is in theory more efficient. In addition, the classic Galaxy S22 is entitled to a glass design rather than plastic, and all models this year are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Despite everything, the first drop tests show that the S22 is less resistant than the Galaxy S21. Dropping the screen phone down less than two meters onto the pavement, the smartphone showed serious damage. Same result for the Galaxy S22+, with very damaged corners, cracked slab, and totally shattered glass.
Only the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers a QHD + 1440p display quality, the other two references are satisfied with a classic FHD + 1080p definition. The screens are brighter than ever, with a maximum brightness of 1500 nits on the Galaxy S22 and 1750 nits on the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra, a record.

Note that this pretty technical sheet for the screen is spoiled by an ugly bug that displays a pixelated bar crossing the device for some users. The issue appears to be software-based, as it only appears when the Vivid screen mode is enabled.
Samsung has promised to fix it in a future update. Moreover, the deployment of the first software update of the Galaxy S22 has begun in certain countries, particularly Egypt and Afghanistan. Logically, this patch should arrive soon in other countries.

This year, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is getting a rear photo block with a very strange design. The smartphone looks like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Samsung is opting this year for a very interesting design for the photo module since it removes the usual protuberance of the photo block. This new design is perfect for minimizing the weight of the smartphone since the mass of the photo module is thus replaced by that of the new S Pen.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is compatible with the S-Pen stylus as was the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, thus marking the end of the famous Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy S22 Ultra offers an integrated stylus like previous Notes. The S pen also offers an extremely low latency of only 2.8 ms.
In terms of colors, Samsung has decided to offer each model in the range of 4 colors. The S22 and S22+ are entitled to these 4 colors: Black, Green, Rose Gold, and White. The S22 Ultra comes in Black, Dark Red, Green, and White. Each smartphone is available in exclusive colors if you order a copy from the official Samsung website.
Finally, keep in mind that the smartphone is almost impossible to repair yourself. Samsung has applied the same formula as for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, namely fixing all the components with an adhesive that is very difficult to remove. This is a clear change from the standard Galaxy S21, which is much easier to disassemble.
