Mood-boosting effects of Chocolate and its Health Benefits

It doesn’t matter if you’re munching on a whole chocolate bar, dipping an ice cream scoop in chocolate sauce, or enjoying a chocolate cake, chocolate is loved by people all over the world.

A chocolate bar is today’s most popular chocolate product, but 90% of chocolate’s history was spent eating it as an unsweetened beverage.

A chocolate bar is probably one of the few food items that taste great and provides health benefits as well. Every culture and nation enjoys chocolate in various forms, including a whole milk chocolate bar, chocolate sauce on ice cream, and chocolate cakes.

Despite how delicious these foods may be to your taste buds, they are not a good choice if you are watching your weight or trying to live a healthy lifestyle. When you’re having a cheat day or a blue day, you’re allowed to have as much chocolate as you want. It is important to burn it off as soon as possible to avoid accumulating fat and extra cholesterol in your body.

More than 90% of chocolate’s history has been consumed unsweetened rather than as a snack.

In the past several decades, chocolates (milk and artificially sweetened ones) have been linked with obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and more. It is nevertheless true that if you eat chocolate in moderation, it is not as harmful as you might think. Exercisers benefit from dark chocolate’s antioxidant properties; it boosts oxygen availability during exercise. In addition to reducing cognitive decline, drinking hot chocolate could benefit older people.

Chocolate is available in 3 main varieties, dark, milk, and white:

Dark chocolate

Almost all chocolates contain only a small amount of milk solids (less than 12%) and at least 35% cacao. Dark chocolate bearing a cacao content of 50-99% is known as bittersweet chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate has between 35 and 50% of cocoa content, which is similar to dark chocolate, but with a lower cacao content.

In addition to rich antioxidants, polyphenols, and flavonoids, dark chocolate with 70% cocoa is considered the healthiest. As a result of their action, they relax blood vessels, improve blood flow, and lower blood pressure. In addition, studies suggest that dark chocolate may also help lower fasting glucose and insulin resistance levels.

Milk chocolate

The term milk chocolate refers to chocolate that contains over 12% milk solids. There is usually a cacao content between 33-45% in these chocolate types. To produce this brownish color, milk (usually powdered milk) is combined with sugar and cocoa powder. There are several components in milk chocolate, including chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, lecithin, sugar, and vanilla flavoring. Having a high sugar and fat content is not healthy.

White chocolate

Twenty percent of this product consists of cocoa butter, which is extracted from cocoa beans. In contrast to chocolate, it doesn’t have the classic chocolate taste because it contains no cocoa.

Serving size is an important factor when creating a healthy diet because healthy diets require a reasonable amount of calories. The consumption of too much could lead to weight gain and obesity, even though it is heart-healthy and may benefit the heart. The recommended consumption of dark chocolate is between 1 and 2 squares per day.
